Diwan Saz - Unfathomed Depth
blueFROG’s take on Diwan Saz
This is a unique collaboration that truly embodies what blueFROG is trying to accomplish. An Israeli ensemble collaborating with Indian classical musicians and an Israeli quawwali singer who composes in Hebrew!! Truly a coming together of all cultures and we are proud to be a part of it.

All about Diwan Saz

Diwan Saz is a unique ensemble from Israel which is researching into the depth of musical traditions of central Asia. The compositions and the poetry played by Diwan Saz embraces the spirit of the Hebrew and sufi heritage from the historical "Holy land".

Shye Ben Tzur is an Israeli Qawwali singer. He was formerly part of the rock band Sword of Damocles, which he founded. After attending a concert in Jerusalem by the Indian classical musicians Hari Prasad Chaurasia and Zakir Hussain, he became interested in Indian music, which brought him into contact with Qawwali. He went to Ajmer in India (the site of the mausoleum of the Sufi saint Moinuddin Chishti), and learned Qawwali there.

In 2004, he performed at Jahan-e-Khusrau, the prestigious international Sufi music festival held in New Delhi. Shye Ben Tzur has two albums to his name: Heeyam and Shoshan. In Heeyam, Shye Ben Tzur worked with traditional qawwals, who learned his compositions and poetry, and sang them in Hebrew.
