Etienne MBAPPE & Su La Take @ Saulkrasti Jazz Festival…
blueFROG’s take on Etienne Mbappe
Etienne Mbappe is a virtuoso bass player and fantastic singer playing some ultra cool funky groovy African music. This gem played with the biggest names like Ray Charles, Carlos Santana and now John McLaughlin...
He and his band Su La Take had a series of successful concerts across India two years ago, and they're now back with the same energy for our great pleasure.
Another DO NOT MISS act at blueFROG!

All about Etienne Mbappe
Just like several other outstanding bass players, Etienne Mbappe comes from Cameroon. His technique and rhythmic sense are amazing and he has created a great musical genre of his own, transcending the frontiers between African music and other styles such as jazz, fusion, pop and even classical music. Best known for his years with the Zawinul Syndicate, Etienne has a long track record behind him, where the years with Salif Keita and with the French National Jazz Orchestra (ONJ) under the direction of Antoine Hervé are especially worth mentioning.
Etienne recorded with Ray Charles on his very last album, toured with Steps Ahead, played with Carlos Santana, and he joined John McLaughlin’s quartet in 2010. He has demonstrated for three decades now, that he is definitely much more than just one of the world’s greatest bass players. His first solo album “Misiya” revealed a singer with a smooth and deep voice, as well as a great talent for arrangements. His second album “Su la Take” followed in Spring 2008.
